LFW underway and Boris Johnson as unlikely Fashion icon.

Paul Costelloe Show

London Fashion Week began showcasing its designers’ S/S 2012 collections this morning with the beautiful backdrop of Somerset House. The venue was nothing short of manic with everyone in Fashion arriving to witness the first few moments of new season magic and, naturally, Boris Johnson (fashion’s new darling, FYI).

Paul Costelloe, was first up to show his collection. The queue, although long, was buzzing with excitement and a strange hierarchical system of coloured dots ensued to decipher who got in first. The show was absolutely packed and (although granted it was a standing position) I found myself front row and peering over the shoulder of fashion giant Hilary Alexander.

Costelloe’s collection was flawless. Commencing with nudes, ivory and a splash of gold, followed by pastel colours and men in purple, it boasted spring elegance but simplicity. The clothing was structured yet the use of linen as a core fabric meant the looks were romantic and gave off, through a few pieces, a subtle seventies vibe.

Costelloe describes his overall womenswear collection as “timelessly innocent with a young, modern edge”.

This was contrasted with the presentation of Caroline Charles later in the morning. Her line  was effortlessly chic but more mature than Costelloe’s; opening with straw boater hats, flared trouser suits and long, beaded evening wear. The sophistication of the clothing was matched with the use of music and the overall sleek appearance of the models. Structure, again, was a defining feature of the line yet it was feminine, light and perfect for the season.

My LFW Highlights so far (yes they are Boris related):

Overheard:

– Press- “What are you wearing Boris?” Boris – ”I don’t know. A suit?”

– Boris- “This is by far the most glamorous audience I’ve ever spoken to.”

The man is a genius.

Can I just say what a relief to discover someone who truly knows what theyre talking about over a internet. You actually know how to bring an trouble to light and make it important. Additional men and women have to read this and understand this side in the story. I cant believe youre not a lot more well-known simply because you definitely have the gift.

  2. Finally a writer that puts some real work into a blog. I do like what you have done with the blog.
